Q&A with Nikki
Q: Who is your favorite instructor?
A: Nicole Griffin
Q: How did you get started with Echelon?
A: I bought a bike in Feb of this year. My husband was leaving to go on a mission trip to Ukraine and I thought it would be a great way to keep me distracted!
Q: What is your favorite part about the Echelon Community?
A: The encouragement! It’s an amazing group of people!
Q: How has Echelon impacted your life?
A: Echelon has been a saving grace in my health journey. After I had my boys my health took a backseat. I really let myself go during my PPD. A year and a half after having my second son I tore my ACL. The recovery from that was mentally hard and I continued to let my health go. I started to get back into walking about a year after my ACL injury because it was the only form of movement I was not terrified of doing. I was so scared I’d tear my ACL again. Two years later I finally got the courage to get back into spin. Echelon was having a deal with Costco and I decided to take a leap! I bought my bike in Feb and my husband left for Ukraine in March. During his trip my rides with Nicole really grounded me and encouraged me. She helped me realize that choosing to show up for my health journey is a way I show up for my boys. My anxiety was leveled during my husband's trips because I was able to ride. I bought my son a Little Tykes spin bike and he now rides with me! I look forward to my journey now because Echelon has such an amazing, encouraging vibe
Q: What keeps you motivated?
A: My family and the challenge of pushing myself! I don’t want to be the kind of mom that can’t go on a walk or bike ride with her kids because I left myself go! I want to show my kids that you can push through and not give up
Q: What tips do you want to share with other members to achieve their fitness goals?
A: For moms specifically I would say show up for yourself and bring your family along with you. I’m a stay at home mom of a 3 and 5 year old. I allowed that to be an excuse for why I wasn’t active. Bring your kids into the journey with you. My kids will do jumping jacks while I ride my bike. Buy a bike and put it in your play room or facing a window where you can see your kids playing outside and do a ride! Nicole once said “your kids will see the work you are doing and you are teaching them healthy habits”. That changed my view of choosing fitness as a positive! Sometimes as moms we feel guilty when we put effort into something for ourselves. Guilt doesn’t belong in your health journey!
Q: What makes Echelon different than our competitors?
A: I feel like Echelon's vibe is inclusion. I’ve never once thought “I’m too big or I’m not good enough” when riding with Echelon. It’s a kind, gracious competitive atmosphere
